Changes to Azure DevOps work item fields are meaningless after the pull request is created. Change the Markdown file in the pull request.
The person who prepares the release notes for review in the Prepare release notes for review step creates a pull request in the release-notes repo that includes reviewers who should approve release notes before publication.
Monitor Slack
When the pull request is created, a link posts automatically to the engineering program management channel in Slack. The channel is notified with a @here notification. The deadline to review is generally for 24 hours.
Review the pull request
A Markdown file of release notes has two sections: What's new and Fixed bugs. See Types of publications.
Verify that:
- Each note is accurate (the person who prepares the release notes for review edits the notes to follow the Writing guidelines)
- Each note is in the appropriate section (a fixed bug may be better categorized as a new feature or vice versa)
- A note should be added (see Find a missing note)
- A note should be removed (see below)
Find a missing note
At the bottom of the Markdown file is a table of all work items generated in the Generate the notes by comparing releases step that don't meet the required logic to be included in the What's new and Fixed bugs sections. For example:
| Area path | Work item title | Release note | Products | ID | Type |
|-----------|------------------|---------------|----------|----|------|
| Vertex\Data Stewardship | Subsets cannot be edited | | | 369351 | Bug |
| Vertex\Data Stewardship | Forge API only returns top 50 identity roles | | | 371550 | Bug |
| Vertex\Quill-Compiler | Update the R articles in Clearpath Docs | | | 369588 | PBI |
| Vertex\CoreTech\Core | Classic edition install on Windows 11 fails | | | 331629 | Bug |
This table is removed before publication. Review it to see if a work item in the table should be in the What's new or Fixed bugs sections. Make changes in the Markdown file, not the work items.
Possible reasons a note is missing
